SEED 3402 Teaching Adolescents in the Content Areas

4 hours recitation, 25 hours field experience; 4 credits

Theories and practices supporting curriculum design in the content area. Study, analysis, and development of content-specific standards-based curriculum units and lesson plans that include diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments. Research-based models and instructional practices for inclusive settings, including students with special needs, gifted and talented students, English Language Learners, and heterogeneous ability groupings. Special emphasis on literacy across all content areas and alignment of planning and instruction with state and national standards. Overview, preparation and planning for New York State teacher certification; support development of portfolio for licensure assessment.

Prerequisites: SEED 2001 and 2002. Prerequisite or Corequisite: SEED 3401.
