Comedy of manners and the heroic tragedy; beginnings of bourgeois drama. Plays of such writers as Dryden, Behn, Congreve, Wycherley, Centlivre, Farquhar, Goldsmith, and Sheridan. Topics may include: courtship and marriage; money, virtue, and vice; race and colonialism.

Prerequisite: ENGL 1010; or corequisite ENGL. 1012.
