ANTH 3460 Historical Archaeology
3 hours lecture plus independent laboratory work; 4 credits.
Explores the material world and its impact on society over the last 500 years. Provides an overview of archaeological method and theory as well as current approaches to material culture from the historical period. Special emphasis on topics of colonialism, race, class, gender, and labor. Students will conduct their own field, laboratory, or literature-based research projects to get experience in study design, data collection, analysis and interpretation, and effective communication of research. Case studies and educational artifact collections will help place these methods and theory in specific contexts.
Prerequisite: Anthropology *1000 or 2100 or 1100 or 1400 or permission of the chairperson.
