SPCL 3400 Communication and Social Pragmatics in Inclusive and Multilingual Settings

3 hours; 3 credits

Introduction to communication and language acquisition including childhood bilingualism and speech, hearing, communication issues of mono/multilingual students with disabilities through a culturally sustaining framework. Focus on assessment and identification of speech and language issues in multilingual students, influence of group membership and culture on development of communication skills, instructional modifications, advocacy and partnership with parents. 20 hours of field experiences.

Prerequisite: SPCL 3350
