POLS 3417 Politics of LGBTQ Human Rights

Study of sexual orientation and gender identity in international rights institutions and discourses. Topics include: criminalization of sexual and gender minorities; tensions between presumptively universalist constructions of sexual orientation and gender identity and regional formations of sexual and gender non-conformity; legacies of colonialism and strategies of resistance to neo-colonial impositions; sexual rights; queering development; homo-nationalism; movements against ?gender ideology?; the phenomena of moral panics/sex panics. This course is the same as WGST 3342 and AMST 3342.
