MVMT 2501 Introduction to Meditation

3 hours, 3 credits

Introduces students to foundations of meditation. Provides an opportunity to understand the philosophical, neurochemical and practical aspects of meditation, including its origins and every day uses and benefits. Topics covered include development of concentration, breathing techniques, compassion practice and self-understanding. Types may include mindfulness, mantra, Zen, transcendental and yoga meditation. The emphasis will be on learning through experience, both with in-class exercises and home practice.
