MUSC 2108 Songwriting
3 hours; 3 credits
This course will focus on understanding the art of song by engaging in the creative process. Topics will include the fundamentals of composing melody and harmony, how the metrics of text are successfully applied to melodies, analysis of songs in a variety of styles, and the roles of songs and songwriters in society. Students will work together and individually to craft songs, and many of these new works will be presented in class and critiqued in relation to each other and successful models.
Prerequisite: Music 1400
