An introductory course designed to familiarize students with major literary works in Italian within a chronological and cultural framework. Representative texts from the Italian-speaking world, providing an overview of Italian writngs that have shaped the lives of generations of readers. Frequent writing assignments in Italian to strengthen students? individual competencies. This core of texts, reviewed periodically by the department, serves as a foundation for advanced literature courses. (Not open to students who have completed Italian 18.) Qualifies as a LOTE (Language Other Than English) course for Pathways College Option purposes.

Prerequisite or corequisite: Italian 2120 [15.50] or permission of the chairperson.
