European thought and culture in the eighteenth century. The Republic of Letters and its social and cultural contexts. Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment as roots of modern culture wars. Relationship between Enlightenment and Revolution. Globalizing, racializing, and gendering the Enlightenment.
