Mystery plays, the revenge tragedy, pastoral comedy, comedy of humors, and the development of blank verse. Such writers as Lyly, Dekker, Marlowe, Jonson, Webster, Beaumont and Fletcher, and Middleton. Possible topics: violence and revenge; queer desire and gender dynamics; imperialism; race and anti-Semitism.

Prerequisite: ENGL 1010; or corequisite ENGL. 1012.
