POLS 3440 Politics through Literature 3 hours; 3 credits Contribution of literary sources to the study of politics. Political concepts and problems include freedom, authority, race, sex, property, and marriage. Application of political criteria and aesthetic criteria to works by such authors as Aeschylus, Austen, Melville, Hurston, Morrison, Ngugi, Naipaul, Dangarembga, Butler, Bechdel, Achebe, Jones, and Marshall. This course is the same as ENGL 3293. Prerequisite: Core Studies 3 or Core Curriculum 1230, or any Political Science course in the 1000-level range, or English 1010 or equivalent, or permission of department.
