Survey of folk, popular, classical forms of the music of Puerto Rico and the Americas. Influence of Taíno, Spanish, European and Afro-Caribbean cultures on these forms. Contemporary dynamics. Roots of Latinx diasporic music. Classes supplemented with performances and audio-visual recordings.

Prerequisite: English 1010 or permission of the chairperson.
