CHIN 3081 Zen Koan Meditation, II 2 hours; 2 credits Continuation of CHIN 2081, a hands-on experience in zazen, the seated meditation practice central to Chan or Zen, known as zuochan ?? in Mandarin. In this course, the so-called ?koan study? will be employed to launch the journey of spiritual awakening or ?rewilding the mind,? which is accompanied by a sense of compassionate social and communal sensitivity and connectivity. Students will develop phenomenological and critical first-person (introspective), as well as no-person contemplative perspectives. While open to all students, it is a core requirement for those pursuing a minor in Zen Contemplative Studies (ZCS). Students may enroll in this course for credit up to two times. Students who minor in ZCS may enroll in this course twice, but it can only be counted once toward the minor. Taught in English. Prerequisite CHIN 2081 or permission or the advisor.
