Degree Details

39 Pathways Credits*

30 Major Credits

51 General Elective Credits

Students may apply a second major, or a minor, towards their general elective credits.

120 Total Credits

*The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Judaic Studies B.A. major includes a course (JUST 1145) that also satisfies a Pathways requirement. Therefore, students majoring in Judaic Studies B.A. only need to complete 39 additional Pathways credits.

The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.

* Ancient period: JUST 3012, JUST 3014, JUST 3015, JUST 3021, JUST JUST 3022, JUST 3023, JUST 3065, or JUST 4024, or JUST 4027. HEBR 4027, HEBR 4030, HEBR 4041,HEBR 4451. (JUST 3012 recommended as an introductory survey).

US Yeshiva Transfer Credits will not count towards the major. Students who receive the full 27 Israel Yeshiva Transfer Credits upon completion of the capstone course would have a head start toward the major/minor since 3 of the Yeshiva transfer credits would count toward the 12 credit JUST Minor, and 9 transfer credits would count toward the 27credit major. The rest of the transfer credits will be awarded as electives that do not count toward the major or minor. The capstone course will count toward the major. To serve as a capstone course, the course must be a 3000, 4000, or 5000 level Judaic Studies (JUST) or Hebrew (HEBR) course (or relevant advanced RELG course substituted by the chair); it must be at least three credits; and students must receive at least a B in the capstone course to receive Yeshiva Transfer Credits. Cross-listed courses taught by faculty outside the department do not count as a capstone. Pathways courses count towards the major/minor but not as a capstone course.

In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisor on a regular basis.
