The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. DegreeMaps are a suggested way through the major, but students may have alternate routes depending on their individual situations. Please reach out to the Chair to discuss any specific concerns and to be academically advised: Dr. MJ Robinson, MJ.Robinson29@brooklyn.cuny.edu.
*Students must complete three of the following TREM platform classes: TREM 3405, TREM 3782, TREM 3841, TREM 3891, TREM 3925, TREM 3951, TREM 4040, TREM 4042, TREM 4045, TREM 4728.
The department chair or program director may, with the approval of the chair of the department's undergraduate curriculum committee, allow substitutions for one or more required classes consistent with the educational goals of the program.
All courses used to meet the degree requirements for the Journalism and Media Studies major must be completed with a grade of C or higher. No course in this curriculum may be taken more than twice for the purposes of degree advancement.
Students must successfully complete ENGL 1012 or higher with a grade of B or better in order to enroll in any Journalism and Media Studies course above TREM 1165. Students who receive transfer credit for ENGL 1012 must provide a writing sample for program assessment prior to enrollment in any Journalism and Media Studies course above TREM 1165.
In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisor on a regular basis.
