Students may apply a minor towards their general elective credits. (The Distributed and Parallel Computing minor is recommended.)

*The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Computational Mathematics B.S. major includes a course (MATH 1011) that also satisfies a Pathways requirement. Therefore, students majoring in Computational Mathematics B.S. only need to complete 39 additional Pathways credits.

The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.

*Students must choose three of the following advanced Program Electives: CISC 3240 or MATH 3107, CISC 3142, CISC 3160, CISC 3230, CISC 3310, CISC 3330, CISC 3350, CISC 3820, CISC 4335.

Candidates for a B.S. degree with a major in Computational Mathematics (Computational Option) must complete at least 60 credits in science and mathematics; 24 of these 60 credits must be completed in advanced courses numbered 2000 and above in the Department of Computer and Information Science and/or the Department of Mathematics. These 24 credits must be completed at Brooklyn College with a grade of C or higher in each course. (Students choosing the Computational Option are also encouraged to minor in Distributed and Parallel Computing.)

The following courses may be applied toward the 60 credits in science and mathematics:

  • a) All courses in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology
  • b) Courses marked with a "#" in the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences
