Degree Details

33 Pathways Credits*

71 Major Credits

16 General Elective Credits

Students may apply a minor towards their general elective credits.

120 Total Credits

*The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Health and Nutrition Sciences (Concentration in Thanatology) major includes four courses (CHEM 1040, BIOL 1001, BIOL 1002, HNSC 1100, HNSC 1200 and HNSC 3314) that also satisfy Pathways requirements. Therefore, students majoring in Health and Nutrition Sciences (Concentration in Thanatology) only need to complete 30 additional Pathways credits.

The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.

*Please select one of the following General Chemistry sequence (consultation with the major advisor is highly recommended.)
• CHEM 1040
• CHEM 1200 and 1201
• CHEM 1050 and 1201 and 2060

**Students must choose a minimum 6 credits from the following courses: HNSC 3171, HNSC 3181, HNSC 3188, HNSC 5390, ART 3151, CLAS 3244, RELG 3035, HIST 3025, PSYC 3260, SOCY 2402.

***Students must select 15 credits of the following courses: BIOL 3003, BIOL 3004, CHEM 2500 or CHEM 3510, CHEM 3521, CHEM 3522, CHEM 4570, CHEM 4580, PHYS 1100, PHYS 2100, PSYC 1000; PSYC 2810, PSYC 2200.

Additionally, candidates for a B.S. degree with a major in Health and Nutrition Science (Concentration in Thanatology) must complete at least 24 credits in Health and Nutrition Science at Brooklyn College with a grade of C or higher in each course and must have an average GPA of 2.80 in HNSC courses.

In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisor on a regular basis.
