Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied. Students who wish to pursue a B.A. degree in Secondary Education for Social Studies Teacher 7-12 must complete one of the following majors: Africana Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Puerto Rican and Latino Studies, or Sociology. (Study must include within the major, or in addition to courses in the major, study in economics, government, and at least 21 credits in the history and geography of the United States and the world.) There is a lot of choice in the Anthropology major, and therefore a lot of flexibility. There are various course-sequences students can follow to complete the major, plus various subfields of anthropology (cultural, linguistic, biological anthropology, or archaeology) within the major students may pursue. Thus it is strongly recommended that students meet with an advisor from CAASS and from the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology early on in order to customize their degree map according to their interests. *Students must complete a field or lab course chosen from the following: ANTH 3015, ANTH 3016, ANTH 3120W, ANTH 3156, ANTH 3240, ANTH 3245, ANTH 3301, ANTH 3440, ANTH 3470, ANTH 3475, ANTH 3480, ANTH 4110.
