It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. *The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Philosophy major includes courses that also satisfy Pathways requirements. Therefore, students majoring in Philosophy only need to complete 39 Pathways credits. The Philosophy major is unique in that students are not necessarily required to take courses in a particular order. There are various course-sequences students can follow to complete the major. The order outlined above is simply one suggestion, among many, and meant more as a general guide for Philosophy majors. Therefore, please feel free to make some adjustments, so long as prerequisite requirements are observed. The department Chair, with the approval of the Chair of the department's curriculum committee, may allow substitutions for one or more course requirements, consistent with the educational goals of the program. In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisor on a regular basis.
