*The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Social Studies Teacher (with Political Science major) B.A. includes a course (SEED 2001 or CBSE 2001) that also satisfies a Pathways requirement. Therefore, students majoring in Social Studies Teacher (with Political Science major) B.A. only need to complete 39 additional Pathways credits.

The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.

Students who wish to pursue a B.A. degree in Secondary Education for Social Studies Teacher 7-12 must complete one of the following majors: Africana Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Puerto Rican and Latino Studies, or Sociology. (Study must include within the major, or in addition to courses in the major, study in economics, government, and at least 21 credits in the history and geography of the United States and the world.)

*For the Political Science major, students must complete five POLS 3000-level or higher elective courses. However, only one course from POLS 5001 or POLS 5002 may be included. Only one POLS course numbered 3603-3651 may be included, with the exception of 3650.

Students must have a GPA of 2.70 or higher based on a minimum of 30 credits in liberal arts and sciences to take SEED 2001 and 2002. Students must have a B- in both SEED 2001 and 2002 and a GPA of 2.75 or higher based on a minimum of 30 credits in liberal arts and sciences to continue to SEED 3401, and SEED 3402, and SEED 3456.

To take SEED 4402, students must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher, a B- or better in both SEED 3401 and 3402, and/or permission of the head of the program. To take SEED 4408, students must earn a B- or higher in SEED 4402, a GPA of 2.75 or higher in their major, and the permission of the head of the program.

In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisors on a regular basis.
