However, the Italian Teacher B.A. major includes one course (SEED 2001) that also satisfies a Pathways requirement. Therefore, students majoring in Italian Teacher B.A. need to complete 39 additional Pathways credits. The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied. *Students must complete four advanced ITAL courses from: ITAL 2021, ITAL 2024, ITAL 2432, ITAL 2120, ITAL 3510, ITAL 3515, ITAL 3518, ITAL 3525. **Students must complete two courses from the following options: Up to two additional courses in the major language and/or from Modern Languages 2310 or higher Two courses in a second language, level 2021 or higher Up to two courses in related areas, subject to department approval Students who place out of ITAL 1010, ITAL 1020, and ITAL 1030 due to proficiency, will still need to complete 12 credits of College Option. If the student is a native speaker, or has taken advanced courses in high school, the first ITAL course at Brooklyn College should be ITAL 2120 or an equivalent composition course. The student can then take ITAL 2030W the following term. Thirty credits in the content area are required for New York state certification to teach a Language Other Than English at the secondary level. Twenty-four of those credits must be taken in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. An average of B or higher in the major is required for student teaching. An average of B- or higher in the major is required for all SEED courses. In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major.
